New Year, New Paintings, Old Friends!

Wow, it's been quite a while since I have written a blog post, do I even know how to anymore?

I know there are a couple of you that have stayed faithful to blogging and I enjoy reading your blogs on the rare occasion that I stumble into Blogland.

Who knows, maybe I will pick it up again, no promises but it could be fun! I miss those good old days.

Here's what I've been up to...

I just finished this painting a few moments ago.  I wanted to try something different.  I have given this to my sister in law because she has been the angel in the family for some time now.  This is one of my favorite pieces and I have a print of it for myself that I will frame someday.

Here is a painting of the Salt Lake City Mormon Temple that I painted for my niece who is LDS and lives just outside of SLC.  I labored over this one with all of the architectural details.  I wanted it to be very true to the building.  I'd like to try it again sometime in a loose style.  This was really stretching my painting ability at the time, I had no idea how to paint this but I think it turned out pretty well.

The other paintings that I've done recently have not been too pleasing to my eye because they are works assigned in an adult ed art class I've been taking and the teacher's taste and mine don't mesh very well. (I have long since given that class up for a new class that lets me be the creative force behind my work instead of "paint as I paint!"  There was only one piece I finished in class that I would even consider hanging on my wall, the chinese cranes in the snow (which became a birthday present for one of my sisters that admired the piece.) What made that work for me was that I put my own spin on the painting and didn't just try to copy what the teacher was doing.  The other ones are really awful. I don't know how much of the fault is the artist and how much is the subject but it was getting pretty depressing painting things that I hated.

I'm signed up to take another painting class as well as drawing and a beginning Spanish class. Habla un español pequeño. Próspero año nuevo mi amigas!

I am SO glad to see you back, and I loved seeing all of the art you've been creating. Oh, I love that first painting of the pretty little cherub angel. You are so talented. Your cranes are beautiful too. Maybe sometimes an artist has to paint something she's not interested in, so that she can become more discplined in her painting?? But what do I know - I cannot paint or draw anything that even my 8 yr old granddaughter thinks is great! Wishing you a wonderful 2011, filled with more beautiful creations! laurie

You know that I love your artwork & I finally remembered to open them up to full size. WOW! The geranium, water landscape & barn are my favorites. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so keep on painting even the ones that don't appeal to you. ♥

PS HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! ☺♥☺

Bridget!!!! I wish we all blogged more often!!! I miss those days as well! Nothing much is cooking... other than Okra... (LOL)

I LOVE your paintings. I always wanted to take a watercolor painting class... I just never got around to it. Your birds in the snow are awesome!!! I love all of your paintings... but the birds really stand out for me! I love deep dark bright colors. I fell in love with those fish that you painted some time ago! You are so talented! I am looking forward to seeing more of your work!

I'm so glad you stopped by bz I didn't know you'd posted again! I do envy the talent that you have. It's amazing to me. I like the header with your cranes too. I also see you've updated your picture! See, I can be astute. Now, I hope that you post this French Country quilt. I'm sure it's beautiful. I still remember the blue and yellow one you did that I fell in love with. I'd love to do a blue and yellow one someday but other things keep coming up. I just finished the last of my sewing for my friend. She has such an eye for putting fun fabrics together and the colors too are so fun together. I don't have a good eye for color and when I finish a quilt I usually wish I'd done something different. With your artist's eye I know this quilt will be stunning.

Keep in touch my friend! I do miss the early days of blogging and the fun adventure it was. Right now blogging for me is just so I can document my family and my life. Pretty boring stuff but I'm glad you pop in once in awhile to brighten my day!

I think your random act of kindness is right up there with any I can think of! I don't think there's enough kindness in this world anymore and I just know you made that Target employee's day! The little things all add up. We have Kaje's graduation tonight and then busy, busy through Seminary graduation on Sunday. I think I'm scheduling a nervous breakdown for Monday.....oh wait! My friend is just about ready to open her quilt store so the nervous breakdown will have to wait! I'll be sharing the pictures of the girls after the graduation ones....at least I hope life works that way, but you never know with me! Thanks for stopping by again. I love hearing from you. I see Schmecky left you a comment too. I hope all is well with her in her world too. I remember her and her cute little girls. Oh, and I got an email back from one of the mom's. It seems she was having a really hard day and this is just what she needed at the right time. The other one was undeliverable (Elder told me he wasn't sure if he was remembering it right) so she's forwarding it to her son and he'll forward it to his companion to send on to his mom. Life is good.

Yes, it's only about 15 minutes from me so I'm in big trouble! Since I'm her friend though and sew for her on the side I get a discount which will help. The biggest problem for me is she keeps getting in more and more fun things and you know you just can't do them all, lol! She'll have an internet store going as soon as this one is up and running more smoothly. She's had a great response and I couldn't be happier for her. Thanks for coming by again. I really look forward to friends visits!
